At National Life we grieve with the nation.

The killings of George Floyd in Minnesota, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, Breonna Taylor in Kentucky and too many others, are stark reminders of the corrosive power of injustice.

For longer than we as a nation are willing to admit, injustice has destroyed hope for many Americans. Injustice should concern everyone – not just those who suffer from it but those who practice it and anyone who witnesses it and does not try to right the wrong. Until we achieve equality, prejudice and racism will continue to erode the fabric of our society.
Dr. Martin Luther King wrote, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

We will not be silent.

Now is the moment to speak up and speak out whenever we witness injustice.

Raising our voices and gathering in peaceful protest powerfully demonstrate our commitment to our values – as individuals and as a nation.

Bringing justice to all will not be an easy road to travel. It will require us to be strong, determined and bold.

At National Life our values – Do Good, Be Good, Make Good – reflect our desire to be inclusive, to be responsible, and to be, as Gandhi said, “the change that you wish to see in the world.”

I remain hopeful.

As citizens of this great country we have a moral obligation to work toward a more perfect union. I believe the activism we are witnessing – the good we are seeing – will move us forward on our nation’s long journey to live up to its values and ideals.

We are in this together.
