National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year program recognizes and rewards K-12 educators and school employees across the country.

We recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence, positive influence, and leadership in the lives of students through our program. The LifeChanger of the Year program recognizes educators and school employees throughout the country. Since 2011, we’ve been able to recognize more than 7,300 school employees from more than 2,000 school districts and have awarded more than $720,000 to schools and school employees.

Grand Prize Winner

Derrick Dixon
Third Grade Additional Adult Assistant
Bedford Elementary School
Baltimore, MD

Derrick has played an essential role in changing the trajectory of the students he supports. No matter what their external behavior may be, he treats them with love, compassion, and understanding.

The school community knows and loves Derrick for his commitment to the culture and success of the school. During the past year, he volunteered for the dance team as a coach and choreographer. Besides being a teacher, Derrick is the proud father of three sons, with one of those being autistic. Having a passion for Autism awareness and a love of fashion, Derrick created “Stomp the Runway for Autism,” a charity fashion show to support children with unique learning styles. As a result, BCPS students were provided with Christmas gifts, school supplies, and other items.

Derrick Dixon is an additional adult assistant at Bedford Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland. Christina Connelly, his principal, nominated him for the award.

“There is no one I can think of who exemplifies the title of LifeChanger of the Year more than Mr. Derrick Durrell Dixon,” said Connelly. “To be around Mr. Dixon is to experience joy and peace. He moves through this world looking to support everyone around him while bringing a smile or laugh to their day.”

We are proud to have Derrick as this year’s Grand Prize winner and are giving him $10,000 to share with his school, plus a trip to Mexico in June.
